COURSE OVERVIEW:
Understanding what makes people tick has become a key issue for anyone who works with others. This is particularly true where you are trying to get the best out of people, allocate the right jobs to the right people, and develop them. Yet, trying to understand people’s inner motivations is a notoriously uncertain science. Personality typologies offer us one of the few routes into this world.
Personality typology is the concept of distinguishing people by their behavioural traits and viewing them as defined types.
The Enneagram is a system of personality which describes people in terms of nine types, each with their own motivations, fears, and internal dynamics. The Enneagram is an emotionally focused system of understanding people — honing in on one’s core emotional motivations and fears. Each of the nine personality types has its own driving force, which is centred around a particular emotion.
According to the Enneagram, each of the nine personality types is defined by a particular core belief about how the world works. This core belief drives your deepest motivations and fears — and fundamentally shapes a person's worldview and the perspective through which they see the world and the people around them.
Understanding a person's Enneagram type helps us to see why they behave the way they do. Each Enneagram type has a set of core beliefs that will consistently motivate them to take particular actions and guide them to make certain decisions. Behaviour that may seem confusing or contradictory can often be explained when we understand a person's Enneagram type.
The Enneagram also helps us understand how people react to stress. By describing how each Enneatype adapts and responds to both stressful and supportive situations, the Enneagram shows opportunities for personal development and provides a foundation for the understanding of others.
The Enneagram uses a numbers system to designate each type. As it is a horizontal system of growth, no one number is better than another. Individuals may relate to more than one type, but the general opinion is that people do not change from one Enneagram personality to another. Rather, they resonate with different traits depending on their overall levels of health.
This course will help you recognise the personality types of others, at work, accept them, work with them and develop them using the Enneagram of Personality. It will help you manage people through their personality traits.
The first part of this course starts by discussing the concept of personality typology and what personality typologies offer us. Then explains the Enneagram of Personality system, what the it tells us and how it works. Then examines each of the nine personality types including; what they are, how to recognise each personality type, how each personality type behaves at work, how personality types are applied to organisations and management styles and how to discover each personality type on your team.
The second part starts by discussing how to manage personalities at work. Also, discusses what the Enneagram can teach us. Then explains how to predict people performance using the Enneagram personality types and how well they will perform in different job roles. Finally, explains how people can develop or stagnate depending on their psychological states.
