COURSE OVERVIEW:

Instructional planning is one of the most important skills that an effective trainer needs to acquire. Trainers have the challenging task of conveying information to a room full of participants with varying learning styles. Trainers create instructional plans to outline the methods for training each session with activities and a list of the necessary resources.

There are many educational benefits that effective instructional plans have. An effective instructional plan is an indication of trainers’ expertise and trainers’ competence. One aspect that expert trainers perform is the ability to design informed instructional plans. If one were to evaluate the level of expertise or competency of a trainer, a good indicator will be on their instructional plan design.

However, there is relationship between instructional planning and training quality in the aspect of participant achievement and training behaviour. Although planning and execution are two entirely different processes, preparing trainers to design effective instructional plans will ensure that they have a good start to a successful lesson.

In addition, an effective instructional plan also provides educational benefits; such as serving as a guideline for trainers, providing the trainer some time space to motivate his or her learners, as well as allowing the trainer to evaluate what they have achieved in class and to improve their training. This will allow trainers to have empirical evidence as their source of reference, when they are certain of their training that they would like to improve on.

This course explains how to write training objectives/learning outcomes, and presents a step-by-step approach to developing a complete instructional plan.

The first part will help training professionals know how to determine the desired performance-based outcomes based on the needs analysis, write properly constructed learning objectives and use outcomes or objectives as the basis for program design and development.

The second part will help you develop a clear and complete design matrix, write an instructional plan, select appropriate methods of instruction, determine how to sequence content and activities and develop and select appropriate participant and trainer materials.
