COURSE OVERVIEW:
Welcome to the Implementing NDIS Practice Standards & Quality Indicators course (With Detailed Response Examples for Completing the NDIS Self-Assessment Modules).
This course provides an in-depth understanding of the NDIS Practice Standards, focusing on their application across a broad range of service delivery areas. Designed to support NDIS providers in achieving compliance and delivering high-quality, participant-centred services, this course includes practical response examples to demonstrate the Quality Indicators required for each standard. These response examples are particularly useful for completing the NDIS self-assessment modules, a critical step in the application process for new NDIS providers.
The course begins with an Introduction to NDIS Practice Standards, providing an overview of their purpose and importance. You will gain insight into how these standards establish benchmarks for quality, safety, and participant-centred care, and how they support continuous improvement within NDIS services.
The course is divided into eight comprehensive modules, with each module addressing key components of the NDIS Practice Standards.
Each standard within these modules is explained in detail, including its Outcome Description and How to Demonstrate the Quality Indicators to Achieve Each Standard Outcome, providing you with clear and actionable guidance.
Module Overview
1. Core Module
The Core Module serves as the foundation of the NDIS Practice Standards and is further divided into four key sections:
o Rights and Responsibilities: This section covers person-centred supports, respecting individual values and beliefs, maintaining privacy and dignity, promoting independence and informed choice, and preventing violence, abuse, neglect, exploitation, and discrimination. You will learn how to achieve these outcomes through practical, participant-centred approaches that uphold dignity and safety.
o Provider Governance and Operational Management: This section explores governance structures, risk and quality management, feedback and complaints handling, incident management, and emergency preparedness. It provides strategies for establishing robust operational systems that align with compliance standards.
o Provision of Supports: This area focuses on ensuring accessible, responsive, and well-planned supports, including effective service agreements, support planning, and managing participant transitions. Practical examples will guide you in aligning these processes with NDIS Quality Indicators.
o Provision of Supports Environment: This section addresses maintaining safe and suitable environments for participants, including managing participant money and property, medication administration, mealtime support, and waste management practices.
2. High Intensity Daily Personal Activities Module
This module covers standards for complex health supports such as bowel care, tracheostomy management, ventilator use, and dysphagia management. Practical examples demonstrate how to ensure safety, competency, and participant well-being while meeting compliance requirements.
3. Specialist Behaviour Support Module
Focused on behaviour management, this module covers developing and implementing Behaviour Support Plans (BSPs), managing restrictive practices, and monitoring outcomes. You will learn how to meet the NDIS standards for behaviour support while prioritising participant dignity and safety.
4. Implementing Behaviour Support Plans Module
Expanding on the Specialist Behaviour Support module, this section delves into the practicalities of implementing and monitoring BSPs. It includes strategies for managing restrictive practices and ensuring plans are reviewed and updated as participants' needs evolve.
5. Early Childhood Supports Module
This module addresses the unique needs of children and their families within the NDIS framework. Topics include providing inclusive, family-centred support, applying evidence-based practices, and achieving developmental goals through collaborative planning and intervention.
6. Specialist Support Coordination Module
Specialist Support Coordinators play a key role in managing complex participant needs. This module focuses on conflict resolution, effective coordination across multiple providers, and ensuring quality outcomes through structured support plans.
7. Specialist Disability Accommodation (SDA) Module
This module provides guidance on managing SDA properties, tenancy arrangements, and service agreements while meeting participant rights and responsibilities. Examples illustrate how to maintain compliance with NDIS standards for safe and accessible housing.
8. Verification Module
The Verification Module addresses operational standards for human resource management, complaints handling, incident reporting, and risk management. You will learn how to implement and document systems to meet the NDIS’s compliance requirements.
