COURSE OVERVIEW:

Positive thinking is the idea that you can change your life by thinking positively about things. This idea can sound a bit soft and fluffy, which is something of a problem for many people who recognise that just thinking good thoughts won’t change the world and therefore discard the whole idea.

However, research shows that positive thinking really does have a scientific basis. You can’t change the world, but you can change how you perceive it and how you react to it. And that can change the way that you feel about yourself and others, which can in turn have a huge effect on your well-being.

Given the pressures in life and the pace of change today it is not always easy to maintain a positive attitude. When you are working too hard, when things don’t seem to be going right in your personal life, or when you are under emotional stress it is very easy to be negative. Your life is out of balance and it is difficult to make rational decisions and see the ‘options’ that are available. If this continues, and you do not know the techniques to help you through these difficult times, or you do not have the confidence to speak out or seek help, then you will feel out of control and a sense of hopelessness can swamp you. This can lead to more dangerous feelings like depression.

It is important, therefore, to understand what makes you feel negative and to recognise it when it is happening; to take back control and do something about it no matter how small. Small steps lead to bigger ones, which in turn can lead to giant steps in your life.

But how do we do this? We do it through retraining our mental capability, in other words retraining our brain. The brain is the most powerful organ in our bodies and yet how many of us use it to its full effect? How many of us abuse it? The first step on the road to becoming positive is to want to. The second step is to train yourself to think positively even when the going gets tough.

This course starts by looking at why we should be positive and what makes you feel negative and how to cope with these feelings. Then looks at the inner voice and how you can know yourself, appreciate yourself and ultimately speak out for yourself. Then explains how being assertive helps positive thinking and how to manage stress. Then looks at how to project a confident image. Then examines the difference between positive and negative body language signals. Then discusses how to handle negativity in others and ourselves, how to boost our self-confidence and our self-esteem and how to take control of our lives.

This course is a practical, self-help guide for anyone who wants to become more positive and stay positive even when the going gets tough. After completing this course you’ll be able to:
