COURSE OVERVIEW:
Welcome to the course on Support Coordination in the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS). This course is designed to equip you with the knowledge and skills necessary to effectively navigate and implement support coordination under the NDIS framework. By the end of this course, you will be adept at coordinating supports, understanding legislative requirements, and maintaining high standards of service for NDIS participants.
We begin by exploring the NDIS system relevant to support coordination. You will gain a thorough understanding of the National and State/Territory legislation, statutory bodies, and the NDIS Code of Conduct. Knowledge of the NDIS Quality and Safeguards Commission will also be covered to ensure you are aware of the regulatory environment and compliance requirements.
The course will discuss the rights-based context of the NDIS, emphasising the importance of recognising participants' rights to choice and control. Understanding support categories, NDIS pricing arrangements, and price limits is crucial for effective support coordination.
You will learn about NDIS service agreements, including the roles and responsibilities of various stakeholders involved in support coordination. Different funding models and their implications for service delivery will be explored, along with the roles and responsibilities of stakeholders such as participants, providers, and coordinators.
Organisational policies and procedures relevant to providing support coordination will be discussed to ensure you can align your practices with best standards. We will also cover the levels of support coordination, the support coordination process, and methods for accessing supports.
Understanding the types of service providers and service options available is essential for offering comprehensive support to NDIS participants. This section will discuss support practices and the benefits and risks associated with using registered and non-registered service providers.
The expectations of the support coordination job role, including understanding NDIS plans and the reporting and recording requirements for NDIS reports, will be covered in detail. You will also become familiar with common terms used in NDIS support coordination.
Practical skills will be developed through tasks such as researching and interpreting industry information to maintain a working knowledge of the NDIS system and funding models. Recognising the participant’s right to choice and control, managing conflicts of interest, and referring matters outside the scope of your role are key competencies you will acquire.
You will also learn to research and interpret service provider information, build and maintain working relationships with providers, and collaborate with them to optimise support options for NDIS participants. Practical exercises will include managing a conflict of interest, referring a matter outside your scope, and building a relationship with a provider.
By the end of this course, you will have a comprehensive understanding of the NDIS system, your role within it, and the skills needed to provide effective and compliant support coordination. You will be prepared to support NDIS participants in navigating their plans, accessing necessary services, and achieving their goals.
This course is designed to align with the content outlined in the Nationally Recognised Unit of Competency CHCDIS021.
