We will examine the impact of ageing on physical and cognitive functions, including changes in the musculoskeletal system, cognitive decline, memory loss, sensory impairments, and communication challenges.

A person-centred care approach will be emphasised throughout the course, focusing on principles such as individualised care plans, respect for autonomy and dignity, advocacy, and rights of older people with disabilities. We will explore legal rights and protections, advocacy organisations and resources, and strategies for empowering clients to make informed decisions.

Communication strategies and techniques, including the use of communication aids and technologies, will be discussed to improve communication and enhance client autonomy. We will also cover assistive technologies, adaptive equipment, mobility support, fall prevention strategies, and nutritional needs of older adults with disabilities, including special diets and meal planning.

Understanding common chronic conditions, medication management, monitoring and managing symptoms, mental health and emotional well-being, coping strategies, and emotional support are essential components of this course.
