You will learn a range of personal hygiene practices, including hand washing techniques, proper use of personal protective equipment, and ways to prevent the spread of microorganisms and airborne diseases. Additionally, we will discuss employee responsibilities in following hygienic practices and maintaining workplace hygiene.

Section B will focus on developing a routine of personal cleanliness practices to prepare for work and maintain customer confidence in organisational service. You will learn how to check and adjust personal cleanliness during service periods, as well as how to ensure the cleanliness of uniforms and personal protective equipment to prevent contamination. By following organisational policies and procedures, you will contribute to ensuring hygienic personal contact throughout your work duties and identify and address workplace hygiene hazards.

In addition, you will learn how to integrate personal hygiene practices into your day-to-day preparation for work. You will learn to check for contamination and cleanliness of hands, uniforms, clothing, and personal protective equipment during day-to-day work functions and adjust as required to maintain optimal hygiene standards.

By the end of this course, you will be equipped with the knowledge and skills to maintain impeccable hygiene standards in hospitality service environments, ensuring the health and well-being of both customers and staff.

This course is designed to align with the content outlined in the Nationally Recognised Unit of Competency SITHIND005.

LEARNING OUTCOMES:

By the end of this course, you will be able to understand the following topics:

Section A: Knowledge

·       Reasons for maintaining personal hygiene in hospitality service environments, including Reduction of Personal Illness, Healing from Personal Illness, Optimal Health and Sense of Well-being, Social Acceptance, Prevention of Spread of Illness to Others, Maintenance of Organisation Image and Service Standards

·       Personal hygiene practices to care for own health and wellbeing prior to and during service periods, including Bathing or Showering, Brushing and Flossing Teeth and Using Mouthwash, Cutting or Manicuring Finger Nails, Treating Skin Allergies, Conditions, or Wounds, Using Deodorant, Using Hand Sanitiser, Washing Clothes Regularly, Washing Hands Regularly, Washing Scalp and Hair, Wearing Clean Bandages on Wounds, Wearing Clean Clothing and Personal Protective Equipment

·       Ways of transferring micro-organisms and spreading airborne and infectious diseases and illness to self and others

·       Hand washing techniques and when they must be used

·       Hygiene hazards and processes including Lack of Clean Linen

·       Lack of Hygiene Signage, Lack of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), Observing others using unhygienic practices, Unclean Hand Washing Facilities, Unclean Public Areas, Unclean Staff Amenity Areas, Unclean Toilets, Unclean Workstations

·       Employee responsibilities in following hygienic practices and maintaining the hygiene of the workplace

Section B: Performance Tasks

·       Develop a routine of personal cleanliness practices in preparation for work and to maintain customer confidence in organisational service.

·       Check and adjust personal cleanliness during service periods to maintain health of self and others.

·       Check cleanliness of uniform and personal protective equipment for contamination during service periods and adjust to maintain health of self and others.

·       Follow organisational policies and procedures to ensure hygienic personal contact in the course of work duties.

·       Prevent the spread of micro-organisms by washing hands at appropriate times.

·       Identify and address workplace hygiene hazards within scope of own role and report any unresolved hazards that may affect the health of self and others.

·       Integrate at least six personal hygiene practices in day-to-day preparation for work

·       Check at least two of the following for contamination and cleanliness during day-to-day work functions and adjust as required:

o   hands

o   uniform

o   clothing

o   personal protective equipment
