COURSE OVERVIEW:
No successful organisation would have been where it is today without effective leadership. Effective leadership is almost always one of the main and primary drivers for growth, development and innovation.
Leadership isn’t about the titles, or even the accolades. Effective leadership is much more meaningful, impactful and profound. It’s earned and worked for. There is no set formula or step-by-step plan, it depends on the culture and needs of the organisation.
Effective leadership is about executing the company’s vision (or redefining and improving it, in some cases) and setting the tone and the culture for that particular organisation. Leadership means creating and planning, securing resources, and looking out for and improving errors. Leadership is about motivating people to work together and cooperate with themselves and in some cases, other teams, to achieve a certain goal.
Effective leadership shines not only when the going is good, but also (even more so, sometimes) when things are rough. They’re respected (not feared) by the people around them, who in turn, become motivated to work harder and make more significant contributions to the betterment of the organisation as well.
Every organisation should do its best to enable effective leadership. Organisations, in general, should be open to doing things differently and be cognisant of how they market is evolving and how customers are changing. Good leaders need a good support system in order for them to function well and maximise their potential.
Part of enabling effective leadership includes providing the right tools to help them achieve and meet their goals. Good leaders made even better and more effective if they are given the means to make operations and processes more effective.
The first part of this course explains what is required of an effective leader and the relevance and importance of the leadership role. It examines the differences between effective and ineffective leadership, explores the keys to successful leadership, and explains the critical need for leaders to motivate staff. Strategies and models of effective motivation are outlined, along with the skills of effective questioning, including identifying ineffective questioning and determining the right questions to ask.
The second part discusses the importance of listening, why it is difficult, and how to recognise and improve poor listening skills to become active listeners. It covers five techniques based on question combinations that promote creativity and innovation among followers. Additionally, the course examines key areas for improving business performance, ensuring followers focus on essential aspects of their jobs, prioritise their workflows, and establish performance standards. Finally, it discusses the nature of an effective team and the actions a leader must take to build one.
