COURSE OVERVIEW:
Welcome to the Apply Research to Vocational Training & Assessment Practices course. This program is designed to equip vocational education professionals with the knowledge and skills to integrate research into their training and assessment practices in a meaningful and ethical way.
Research in the VET sector plays a vital role in ensuring that training remains current, relevant, evidence-based and aligned to both organisational goals and industry demands.
The course begins by helping you define the purpose of conducting research within the context of your organisation. You will explore how to identify training and assessment challenges and opportunities, both current and emerging, and determine the research rationale and methodology to address these needs effectively.
You will learn how to clearly articulate the scope of your research activities, identify required resources, establish realistic timelines, and determine expected outcomes. This includes the development of robust evaluation processes and criteria to assess the achievement of research goals, along with the preparation of budgets and timelines aligned with organisational requirements and operational constraints.
This course provides you with guidance on how to prepare a well-structured research proposal that aligns with organisational protocols and how to present your proposal for approval to relevant personnel or stakeholders.
Once approved, you will learn how to manage and conduct research activities systematically. This includes collecting, recording and analysing research data in a way that contributes to improving current and future training and assessment practices. You will explore data analysis techniques, and how to relate findings to real-world application in the VET context.
Understanding where to find relevant theories and how to apply them appropriately is essential. You will learn how to locate reputable sources of information, apply theoretical frameworks to your research findings, and use these insights to make evidence-based recommendations for practice enhancement. This includes identifying which findings are most applicable to your own professional practice.
You will then explore strategies for implementing these research findings in your own delivery and assessment work. This includes how to select practical, logical, and context-appropriate strategies for change, and how to apply them to achieve meaningful improvements in learner outcomes and training quality.
The course also covers how to prepare professional documentation to communicate your research findings. You will learn how to use academic referencing and citation protocols to present your work with credibility, and how to recommend future actions to improve training and assessment practices based on your findings.
To ensure sustainability, you will learn how to establish criteria to monitor and evaluate any new practices you implement. You will explore how to design effective monitoring tools and evaluation processes, and how to report findings to relevant personnel for feedback and decision-making.
The course concludes with a focus on the ethical and professional standards required when conducting research. You will gain a solid understanding of the Australian Code for the Responsible Conduct of Research, intellectual property protocols, and how to maintain academic integrity through appropriate referencing, attribution, and source acknowledgment.
By the end of this course, you will have developed the competence to lead and apply research projects that strengthen training delivery and assessment design, enhance organisational practice, and contribute to the continual improvement of vocational education in Australia.
This course is designed to align with the content outlined in the Nationally Recognised Unit of Competency TAERES511.
