COURSE OVERVIEW:
Vocational education and training (VET) provides people with the workplace skills and technical knowledge they need to meet current and future employment demands.
Employers hold VET qualifications in high regard. They know VET delivers a structured program designed by industry experts that coaches students through the specific skills industry needs.
The realisation of continuous improvement in VET practice relies on thorough planning, careful execution, and effective professional development. In turn, each of the processes and activities depends on well-informed, consistent and reliable evidence-based judgments about all aspects of organisational performance and capability.
The challenge for each VET training provider is to assess and review its operations, to establish and implement plans and processes for improvement, and to set the indicators that demonstrate progress towards excellent educational practice.
The benefits of a high-quality vocational education include:
· Students have the greatest stake in the quality of vocational education and training (VET).
· Employers rely on registered training organisations (RTOs) to provide essential skills and knowledge to both new entrants and existing workers.
· VET is a significant contributor to Australia’s domestic economy, as the primary mechanism used to meet the skilling needs of the Australian community.
This course offers training providers and trainers an organising framework to support good practice in VET training and learning. Built around the four factors and their associated indicators, the course seeks to assist training in their endeavours to maximise outcomes for their learners – whether employment related, associated with further study or personal skills development. This course also provides practitioner with suggestions for how the journey from good to excellent practice can be built into each training provider’s day to day operations.
Each of the factors in the framework describes an aspect of a training provider’s scope of practice. The factors converge to support and improve good teaching and assessment practice. The indicators for each factor provide examples of how the training provider can extend the quality of their programs, and the practice perspectives provide evidence of good practice from across the sector.
