Welcome to the Conduct Troubleshooting Processes to Identify Common Automotive Faults course. You will be required to demonstrate how you determine the nature of the customer enquiry using appropriate questioning techniques, recognise hazards associated with fault identification and apply safety precautions, and research troubleshooting options to select the most appropriate approach for the circumstances.
This assessment will confirm your understanding of preparation and process control requirements, including selecting tools and equipment for troubleshooting and checking serviceability in line with manufacturer procedures, identifying the automotive system or component related to the reported fault, and following workplace troubleshooting procedures to identify the likely cause without causing damage. It will also assess your knowledge of seeking information and support as needed to assist fault identification, and applying WHS and OHS requirements including correct PPE selection and use during troubleshooting activities.
You will also be assessed on practical reporting, verification and documentation requirements, including reporting fault identification findings to appropriate persons for action in line with workplace procedures and applying procedures for documenting and reporting findings with clear recording of identified basic faults across relevant vehicle systems. The assessment will examine your ability to use simple diagnostic charts and flowcharts to guide decision-making, conduct a final inspection to ensure work meets workplace expectations and the vehicle or equipment is presented ready for use, and complete post-task requirements such as checking and storing tools and equipment, identifying and tagging faulty electrical equipment, and processing workplace documentation relating to the troubleshooting activity.
