COURSE OVERVIEW:

Welcome to the Workplace Coaching Methods course. This program has been designed to equip you with the knowledge, frameworks and practical techniques required to coach individuals and teams effectively in the workplace. You will explore the importance of workplace coaching and mentoring, the distinctions between the two approaches, the rewards for both sides of the coaching and mentoring relationships, and the benefits coaching brings to performance, motivation and workplace culture. This course also examines coaching methods, models, communication skills, performance management strategies and the conditions necessary for building high-performing teams.

This course begins by examining the importance of workplace coaching and mentoring and the difference between coaching and mentoring as developmental approaches. You will explore the rewards for both coach and coachee, the rewards for mentor and mentee, and how mentoring and coaching support performance management when applied constructively. This section also examines the benefits of workplace coaching, what coaches should be, and why understanding poor performance is essential for effective intervention. You will explore how to identify the reasons for poor performance, how to manage poor performance appropriately and the characteristics of a successful coach.

The next learning area focuses on coaching intensity, empowerment and core coaching skills. You will explore the coaching continuum, why some employees require intensive coaching and how to maintain a level of coaching that empowers and motivates rather than overwhelms. This section also examines the step-in, step-out method, the skills of a great coach and the coaching methods best suited for individual employees. You will explore the GROW Model, the OUTCOMES Model and how structured conversations help employees clarify goals, identify obstacles and take ownership of solutions. You will also explore how to give effective feedback that supports learning, improvement and confidence.

A further learning area examines coaching methods for teams. You will explore how to define the purpose and priorities of the team, how to understand the team’s environment and how to identify and address barriers to performance. This section also examines how to build a team development plan, how to grow collective confidence and how to maintain the balance between direction and autonomy. You will explore the twelve conditions for a high-performing team and how coaches help teams achieve sustained excellence.

Another learning area focuses on team commitment, communication and cohesion. You will explore how to ensure all team members are committed to the team’s purpose and how to establish motivating goals that inspire ownership and engagement. This section also examines how to ensure team members have clearly defined expectations, how to develop multi-directional communication and how diverse talents can be recognised as strengths. You will explore how to develop support and trust, enabling the team to operate with transparency, respect and shared accountability.

By the end of this course you will be able to understand the role and importance of workplace coaching and mentoring, diagnose and address performance issues, apply structured coaching models, give effective feedback, coach individuals and teams confidently, build high-performing team environments and foster communication, trust and motivation across the workplace.
