INTRODUCTION:
Welcome to the Establish & Govern Business Continuity Management Strategies course. This course only includes a challenge assessment to assess your knowledge and skills required to demonstrate competence in establishing, governing and overseeing business continuity management (BCM) strategies that protect critical operations, support organisational resilience and maintain continuity of services during and after disruptive events.
Business continuity management involves a structured and systematic approach to identifying critical business functions, understanding potential disruption scenarios, assessing impacts and developing strategies and plans to ensure that the organisation can continue operating at an acceptable level. It requires an understanding of BCM principles and frameworks, and how they integrate with broader business processes such as risk management, governance, emergency management, ICT, supply chain and strategic planning. Effective BCM leadership ensures that threats are identified and managed proactively, critical resources and dependencies are understood, and the organisation is prepared to respond, recover and adapt when disruption occurs.
The course assessment focuses on your ability to interpret and apply BCM concepts at an organisational level, make informed judgements about continuity priorities, and recognise the practical requirements involved in establishing and governing a BCM framework. You will be required to demonstrate how you define organisational scope, identify critical business operations, key resources and potential disruption scenarios, and develop and integrate risk management strategies that support continuity. The assessment will also examine your understanding of business impact analysis (BIA) for determining critical processes, recovery timeframes and potential impacts, and designing and establishing BCM frameworks, strategies and plans that respond to those findings.
This assessment will confirm your understanding of governance and leadership requirements for BCM, including establishing sponsorship, roles, responsibilities and accountability at corporate level. It will also assess your knowledge of stakeholder consultation, communication and approval processes for BCM frameworks and resources, as well as planning and allocating resources for the implementation of continuity strategies. You will be expected to demonstrate awareness of organisation-wide BCM learning and development programs, exercises and rehearsals that build capability and test readiness for disruption and recovery.
You will also be assessed on how BCM frameworks are monitored, validated and continually improved over time, including establishing cyclical review processes and internal audits, and applying tools and methods to verify and validate BCM activities, processes and plans. The assessment will examine your ability to review and improve organisational communication strategies for disruptions and recovery, analyse internal and external dependencies and interdependencies in continuity planning, and review, update and re-align BCM activities, processes, plans and resources following exercises, audits or real activations. It will also confirm your understanding of how BCM is embedded into organisational policies, procedures and strategic decision-making so that continuity considerations become part of everyday governance and planning.
By successfully completing this course assessment, you will have demonstrated that you can interpret and apply the core requirements of establishing and governing business continuity management strategies at an organisational level, including defining scope and critical operations, integrating risk and impact analysis, designing and governing BCM frameworks, overseeing testing and review processes, and embedding continuity into organisational governance and strategy—confirming your readiness to lead or significantly influence BCM practice and resilience outcomes within an organisation.
