INTRODUCTION:

Welcome to the Prepare & Implement Workplace Sustainability Plans course. This course only includes a challenge assessment designed to assess your knowledge and skills required to demonstrate competence in developing and implementing workplace sustainability plans that address social, economic and environmental impacts while creating tangible value for the organisation and its stakeholders.

Workplace sustainability planning involves taking a structured approach to understanding how day-to-day operations affect resource use, the environment, communities and long-term organisational performance, and then designing practical actions to improve outcomes. It requires a solid grasp of the principles and scope of workplace sustainability, including how social, economic and environmental factors interact, and how changes in work practices can reduce negative impacts and generate positive value. It also involves recognising environmental and resource impacts, including community impacts and engagement considerations, so that sustainability initiatives are realistic, responsible and aligned with organisational priorities.

The course assessment focuses on your ability to interpret and apply sustainability planning concepts in a real workplace context, make informed judgements about where and how to act, and recognise the practical requirements involved in preparing sustainability plans. You will be required to demonstrate how you identify workplace sustainability issues and opportunities, assess feasibility for action in a defined work area, research and apply relevant environmental legislation, regulations, standards and organisational policies, and consult and engage with stakeholders to gather information and define requirements. The assessment will also examine your ability to develop sustainability objectives, targets and indicators (including SMART measures) that can be used to assess plan effectiveness.

This assessment will confirm your understanding of how to design workplace sustainability plans that address multiple issues, actions, responsibilities and timeframes, and how to identify and plan the resource requirements—people, materials, technology and budget—needed for implementation. It will test your ability to source required resources, delegate and supervise work teams to implement sustainability initiatives, and use appropriate communication and consultation strategies (such as meetings, training, posters and signage) to convey sustainability changes and expectations clearly across the workplace.

You will also be assessed on how sustainability plans are implemented, monitored and improved over time, including monitoring plan performance against indicators using numerical data and software tools, and evaluating successful and unsuccessful features of sustainability plans, including risks and barriers. The assessment will examine your ability to document evaluations, results and lessons learned, amend and improve sustainability plans and workplace practices based on monitoring and evaluation findings, and access and use external assistance, programs and digital tools to support implementation and continuous improvement of workplace sustainability plans.

By successfully completing this course assessment, you will have demonstrated that you can interpret and apply the core requirements of preparing and implementing workplace sustainability plans, including understanding sustainability principles, identifying issues and opportunities, complying with relevant legislation and policies, engaging stakeholders, planning and resourcing actions, and monitoring, evaluating and improving sustainability performance—confirming your readiness to lead or significantly influence workplace sustainability initiatives within your organisation.
