INTRODUCTION:

Welcome to the Plan & Conduct Safe Visits to Client Residences course. This course only includes a challenge assessment designed to assess your knowledge and skills required to demonstrate competence in preparing for, undertaking and following up visits to client homes safely, professionally and in accordance with organisational, legal and ethical requirements.

Planning and conducting safe visits to client residences involves structured preparation, risk awareness and clear communication before, during and after each visit. It requires you to plan and schedule visits in line with the purpose of the visit and service requirements, review client records and prepare appropriate equipment, resources and documentation, including contingencies for unexpected issues. Safe home visiting is essential to protecting your own safety and wellbeing as a worker, as well as the safety, privacy and rights of clients and others in the household, and supports consistent, high-quality service delivery across diverse residential and community environments.

The course assessment focuses on your ability to apply safe visiting procedures in real work contexts. You will be required to demonstrate how you confirm that the client is expecting the visit, check security, access and entry arrangements, and maintain personal safety by informing co-workers of visit details and following working-alone and duress procedures. The assessment will also examine how you gain entry to the residence, communicate the purpose of the visit, confirm the client’s consent to proceed, and identify and control environmental hazards and WHS risks in the home, including basic home fire safety and the application of appropriate infection prevention and control practices.

This assessment will confirm your understanding of professional conduct, risk management and reporting requirements during and after home visits. You will need to show how you demonstrate respect, sensitivity and professional boundaries in the client’s home, manage ethical dilemmas, behaviours of concern and difficult situations in line with organisational policies, and identify health issues or areas of concern that might place the client or others at risk while acting within duty of care and dignity of risk. You will also be assessed on how you use organisational systems to report issues observed during visits (including mandatory reporting, WHS and other statutory requirements), complete accurate and objective documentation of each visit, and record, plan and implement follow-up visits and referrals in accordance with client needs and organisational procedures.

By successfully completing this course assessment, you will have demonstrated that you can interpret and apply the core requirements of planning and conducting safe visits to client residences, including structured pre-visit preparation, safe and rights-based practice in the home, effective identification and reporting of risks, appropriate follow-up actions, and consistent application of legal, ethical and practice standards such as human rights, privacy, confidentiality, discrimination and work role boundaries—confirming your readiness to deliver safe, accountable and professional services in residential and community settings.
