INTRODUCTION:
Welcome to the Participate in Delivering a Practicum in Vocational Education & Training course. This course only includes a challenge assessment designed to assess your knowledge and skills required to demonstrate competence in supporting the delivery of practicum training by planning for learner needs, facilitating sessions aligned to nationally recognised training products, maintaining safe and inclusive practice, and using feedback and reflection to strengthen teaching and training performance.
Participating in delivering a practicum in vocational education and training involves contributing to real training delivery while applying effective facilitation practices under guidance and within organisational requirements. It is important in workplace practice because trainers must respond to learner diversity, manage barriers to learning, use appropriate supports, and maintain safe, respectful, and inclusive learning environments while delivering sessions that align to training product requirements.
The course assessment focuses on your ability to interpret learner and cohort needs, apply suitable facilitation techniques during practicum delivery, and use structured feedback to improve your teaching and training practice. It evaluates your capability to recognise learning barriers, implement support strategies within role scope, customise session planning and resources, adjust facilitation in real time, and demonstrate reflective practice and professional growth through evidence-based improvement.
This assessment will confirm your understanding of how to identify individual learner and cohort characteristics to inform practicum planning decisions, analyse learner characteristics to determine barriers to learning and required support strategies, and seek and integrate feedback from qualified and experienced personnel on learner barriers and support needs into session planning. It will also confirm your ability to organise foundation skills and other learning supports within your role scope and recommend specialist referrals where required, develop and customise session plans, delivery plans, and learning resources to meet learner needs and delivery context, deliver practicum training sessions aligned to nationally recognised training products using suitable facilitation techniques, adjust facilitation techniques in response to feedback to meet individual and cohort learning needs during delivery, and establish and maintain a safe and inclusive learning environment including respectful protocols, inclusive language, WHS responsibilities, and accessible introductions to learning.
You will also be assessed on your ability to seek structured feedback and advice from qualified VET teachers and/or trainers on your teaching and training practices in line with organisational protocols, collect and analyse learner feedback to identify strengths and improvement needs, and apply feedback outcomes to improve teaching and training practice during ongoing practicum delivery. The assessment will confirm your capability to observe the teaching and training practices of other qualified VET teachers and/or trainers to identify effective approaches relevant to your role, conduct professional conversations with qualified personnel to gather facilitation insights and document learnings applicable to your practice, participate in professional development relevant to teaching and facilitation to strengthen delivery capability and industry-appropriate practice, and evaluate and document practicum outcomes by reviewing planning strategies, facilitation techniques, and resource customisation skills while identifying opportunities for improvement through reflective practice.
By successfully completing this course assessment, you will have demonstrated that you can contribute effectively to practicum delivery by planning for learner needs, delivering and adjusting facilitation aligned to training product requirements, maintaining safe and inclusive practice, and using feedback, observation, professional conversation, and reflection to improve teaching and training performance.
