INTRODUCTION:
Welcome to the Participate in Pre- & Post-Assessment Validation Activities course. This course only includes a challenge assessment designed to assess your knowledge and skills required to demonstrate competence in participating in assessment validation activities before and after assessment, including reviewing assessment tools and evidence, applying compliance requirements, and contributing to continuous improvement of assessment quality and consistency.
Participating in pre- and post-assessment validation involves working with other assessors and stakeholders to confirm that assessment tools are fit for purpose, that assessment practices are consistent, and that assessment judgements are defensible and compliant. This work requires a clear understanding of the RTO assessment system, legislative and regulatory requirements, and the principles of assessment and rules of evidence because validation is a key mechanism for ensuring assessment decisions are fair, reliable and aligned to unit requirements. Effective validation participation strengthens assessment integrity, supports audit readiness, reduces inconsistency between assessors, and improves the quality of assessment tools and processes over time.
The course assessment focuses on your ability to interpret and apply validation requirements, make informed contributions to validation discussions, and recognise the practical steps required to review tools, evidence and judgements systematically. You will be required to demonstrate how you confirm the purpose, context and scope of the planned validation activity, confirm your own role and responsibilities and those of others involved, and access and review assessment system policies and procedures relevant to validation participation.
This assessment will confirm your understanding of compliance and documentation requirements, including accessing and applying relevant legislative and regulatory requirements that relate to assessing competence and participating in validation, confirming receipt of required validation documents including reporting and record requirements, and reviewing units of competency to identify the evidence requirements that assessment tools and assessment judgements must address. It will also assess your knowledge of accessing and reviewing samples of evidence and assessment judgements for post-assessment validation, and participating actively in validation sessions using agreed communication methods and modes.
You will also be assessed on your ability to apply structured evaluation principles during validation, including applying the principles of assessment to evaluate assessment tools, practices and judgements, and applying the rules of evidence to determine whether evidence gathered supports assessment decisions. The assessment will examine your capability to use mapping documentation to confirm assessment tools cover all unit requirements, contribute to pre-assessment validation by confirming tasks, context, conditions and instructions are fit for purpose, and contribute to post-assessment validation by reviewing completed learner work and results to confirm tool effectiveness. It will also confirm your ability to validate assessment practices and assessment judgements by comparing assessor judgements using the same tool, identifying inconsistencies, and proposing improvements.
By successfully completing this course assessment, you will have demonstrated that you can interpret and apply the core requirements for participating in pre- and post-assessment validation activities, including confirming validation scope and roles, working within assessment system policies and regulatory requirements, reviewing units and evidence requirements, evaluating tools and judgements using the principles of assessment and rules of evidence, using mapping to verify coverage, contributing to pre- and post-assessment validation, agreeing and documenting outcomes and improvement recommendations, seeking and applying feedback to strengthen your own practice, and maintaining ethics, privacy and confidentiality throughout validation activities—confirming your readiness to support quality and compliance in competency-based assessment systems.
