INTRODUCTION:

Welcome to the Plan & Facilitate Synchronous & Asynchronous Online Learning course. This course only includes a challenge assessment designed to assess your knowledge and skills required to demonstrate competence in planning and facilitating online learning in real workplace contexts, including selecting appropriate synchronous and asynchronous activities, establishing effective learning environments, and managing delivery processes that support learner engagement, participation, and progress.

Plan and facilitate synchronous and asynchronous online learning involves designing and running structured online learning experiences that combine live interaction with self-paced activities, while ensuring delivery remains accessible, safe, and aligned to intended outcomes. It is important in workplace practice because online learning must maintain quality and consistency across diverse learners, support equitable access, and ensure technology, communication, and facilitation practices produce effective learning participation and measurable progress.

The course assessment focuses on your ability to interpret and apply online delivery requirements, plan and structure learning activities appropriately, and facilitate learning using digital tools in a way that supports engagement and progress. It evaluates how you align activities to objectives, recognise learner characteristics and support needs, apply suitable learning principles, and meet organisational expectations for safety, inclusion, integrity, and secure record management.

This assessment will confirm your understanding of how to establish online learning objectives and select synchronous and asynchronous learning activities that align to intended outcomes, and how to identify individual learner characteristics to inform planning, engagement approaches, and participation expectations. It will also confirm your ability to identify learner support needs, including foundation skills, learning support, and technical needs, and implement reasonable adjustments or access specialist support within role scope, develop or customise an online delivery plan using relevant learning theories and principles suited to vocational learners in online contexts, confirm technical requirements for the online learning environment including organisational technology standards, access, and usability for learners, and select and confirm communication channels and online learning resources and materials that are suitable, accessible, and fit for purpose. In addition, it will confirm your capability to introduce learners to the online learning environment, clarify objectives, protocols, and participation expectations, establish an effective online learning relationship, and establish safe and inclusive online learning practices including respectful interaction protocols, inclusive language, and use of diverse resources and methods.

You will also be assessed on your ability to facilitate synchronous online sessions using appropriate digital tools and embedded applications to enable interaction, collaboration, feedback, and practice, and plan, organise, and facilitate multiple synchronous group sessions that meet duration, interaction, and platform suitability requirements. The assessment will confirm your capability to facilitate asynchronous online learning activities using suitable tools and structures that support continuity, progress, and learner engagement, and plan, organise, and facilitate multiple asynchronous activities that align to the delivery plan and support learners in the same learning cohort. It will also assess how you monitor learner engagement, participation, responses, and progress and apply facilitation strategies that maintain momentum and maximise learning progress, manage technology and integrity requirements during delivery by applying organisational procedures for security, privacy, confidentiality, authentication, academic integrity, and responding to technical issues, and review online learning effectiveness by collecting learner feedback, reflecting on facilitation performance, documenting outcomes, consulting required personnel, implementing improvements, and maintaining secure learner records in line with regulatory, organisational, and WHS requirements.

By successfully completing this course assessment, you will have demonstrated that you can plan, facilitate, monitor, and review synchronous and asynchronous online learning in a way that aligns to objectives, supports diverse learner needs, uses suitable technologies, maintains safe and inclusive practice, and meets organisational requirements for integrity, security, and documented outcomes.
