INTRODUCTION:
Welcome to the Plan & Facilitate Workplace-Based Learning in Vocational Education course. This course only includes a challenge assessment designed to assess your knowledge and skills required to demonstrate competence in planning, coordinating, and facilitating structured workplace-based learning that is safe, achievable in real work conditions, and aligned to agreed learning objectives and workplace expectations.
Plan and facilitate workplace-based learning in vocational education involves designing and managing learning that occurs through real work tasks, workplace routines, and supervised practice, while ensuring learning remains purposeful and evidence-based. It is important in workplace practice because effective workplace-based learning supports competence development without disrupting operations, requires clear role allocation and communication with workplace personnel, and must be delivered in a way that maintains safety, compliance, and meaningful progression toward agreed outcomes.
The course assessment focuses on your ability to interpret workplace and learning requirements, design a workable learning plan, and facilitate learning activities that build competence through structured workplace opportunities. It evaluates your capability to make sound decisions about feasibility, safety, supervision, scheduling, and stakeholder engagement, and to monitor progress and adapt facilitation approaches to meet learner needs while maintaining workplace expectations.
This assessment will confirm your understanding of how to clarify and confirm workplace-based learning objectives and scope to define required outcomes and expectations, and how to analyse position descriptions and work routines to confirm learning objectives can be safely achieved in the workplace environment. It will also confirm your ability to establish the workplace learning environment, including access to equipment, resources, and suitable conditions for learning, identify required workplace personnel and confirm their job roles and responsibilities in supporting workplace-based learning, integrate and monitor workplace-based learning activities to ensure structured progress toward learning objectives, define phases and duration for work-based learning including sequencing, scheduling, and timeframes aligned to workplace operations, identify the need for support personnel and organise supervision arrangements appropriate to the learner’s level of knowledge, skill, and experience, and draft a workplace-based learning plan that uses a range of learning opportunities, outlines required safety arrangements, and meets learning objectives.
You will also be assessed on your ability to obtain agreement from required personnel to finalise and implement the workplace-based learning plan, including stakeholder liaison requirements, and conduct an initial learner meeting to explain learning objectives and processes, establish rapport, and confirm workplace training pathway requirements where relevant. The assessment will confirm your capability to discuss and agree planned learning opportunities and activities in line with any regulatory requirements and organisational procedures, select and explain facilitation techniques that meet learner needs including demonstration, instruction, questioning, coaching, and supervised practice, and identify and organise foundation skills support and additional learning needs support within role scope while accessing specialist support where required. It will also assess how you implement workplace-based learning by preparing the environment, checking equipment, managing WHS hazards and risks, overseeing activities to plan sequence, and managing workplace constraints and distractions, and evaluate and close workplace-based learning by monitoring learner engagement, encouraging learner responsibility and self-reflection, seeking feedback from learners and stakeholders, evaluating outcomes against objectives, and reviewing and improving own facilitation practice including accurate record management.
By successfully completing this course assessment, you will have demonstrated that you can plan, coordinate, facilitate, and evaluate workplace-based learning that is safe, structured, and aligned to agreed objectives, while engaging required workplace personnel, supporting learner needs, managing practical workplace constraints, and maintaining clear documentation of outcomes.
