INTRODUCTION:

Welcome to the Design & Implement Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) Kits course. This course only includes a challenge assessment designed to assess your knowledge and skills required to demonstrate competence in designing and implementing assessor-led RPL processes and kits that enable candidates to present authentic, sufficient, current, and valid evidence against nationally recognised training product requirements, supported by clear documentation and defensible assessment decisions.

Designing and implementing RPL kits involves structuring a recognition pathway that helps candidates and workplaces identify what evidence already exists, what evidence is still required, and how that evidence will be gathered and verified. It is important in workplace practice because RPL decisions must be consistent, fair, and compliant, and must be supported by clear mapping, sound evidence verification, and appropriate documentation that can withstand audit scrutiny and meet organisational expectations.

The course assessment focuses on your ability to interpret and apply training product requirements to recognition contexts, establish clear evidence expectations, and produce practical tools that guide candidates and assessors through a structured RPL process. It evaluates your capability to make sound recognition judgements, identify and manage evidence gaps, confirm roles and responsibilities, and implement processes that maintain integrity, authenticity, and confidentiality throughout evidence collection and decision-making.

This assessment will confirm your understanding of how to consult with RPL candidates to identify recognition needs and confirm an overview of existing skills, knowledge, and experience, and how to explain the assessor-led RPL process, evidence requirements, and assessor support while confirming candidate understanding and commitment to proceed. It will also confirm your ability to confirm and document candidate, employer, and assessor roles and responsibilities for evidence collection, including suitability decisions and required records, identify evidence candidates can provide against nationally recognised training product requirements including options for portfolios and workplace evidence, interpret and map units of competency to candidate evidence including clustering opportunities where evidence supports multiple products, and identify evidence gaps and document required additional evidence including alternative evidence options and additional assessment tasks to meet requirements. In addition, it will confirm your capability to agree mapping outcomes with candidates and determine requirements for third-party reports and supporting validation evidence, and design the customised recognition plan content including goals, risks, scheduled milestones, allocated resources, and assigned tasks aligned to organisational processes.

You will also be assessed on your ability to develop an RPL kit that specifies suitable evidence collection methods and instruments, including product-based methods, workplace templates, and evidence from other parties, and produce evidence guides, assessor instructions, and candidate templates in consultation with assessors to support consistent assessor-led RPL practice. The assessment will confirm your capability to develop plain English exemplars and evidence checklists that guide candidates to make informed choices and submit fit-for-purpose evidence, and identify and record candidate and employer support requirements including reasonable adjustment, contextualisation for alternative evidence, and support systems for the RPL process. It will also assess how you validate recognition tools and kits with peers and industry, finalise kit versions and obtain required approvals in line with organisational policies and procedures, implement the evidence collection process by providing advice and confirming support arrangements while monitoring authenticity, sufficiency, currency, and privacy and confidentiality requirements, and review evidence and apply the principles of assessment and rules of evidence to make, communicate, and record RPL judgements including guidance for non-competent outcomes and planning gap assessments or suitable workplace projects where relevant.

By successfully completing this course assessment, you will have demonstrated that you can design, document, validate, and implement an assessor-led RPL kit and process that supports candidates to provide appropriate evidence, enables consistent mapping and verification, and results in compliant and defensible recognition decisions aligned to training product and organisational requirements.
