INTRODUCTION:
Welcome to the Design & Implement Training & Assessment Strategies for Learners with Disability course. This course only includes a challenge assessment designed to assess your knowledge and skills required to demonstrate competence in identifying access and inclusion barriers within training and assessment delivery, designing and documenting compliant strategies to address those barriers, and then implementing, reviewing and improving those strategies to support equitable participation and defensible outcomes for learners with disability.
Designing and implementing training and assessment strategies for learners with disability involves systematically examining how training and assessment is currently delivered and determining where unnecessary barriers exist that restrict participation. These barriers can be created by learning and assessment environments, training structures, scheduling approaches, delivery modes, resources, and the way information and tasks are presented. This work is important because inclusive practice is not achieved by intention alone; it requires practical strategy design, appropriate resourcing, and consistent implementation so that learners can demonstrate competence without disadvantage, while still meeting vocational outcomes and maintaining safety and compliance requirements.
The course assessment focuses on your ability to review current training and assessment delivery, analyse barriers that may restrict participation, and then investigate inclusive strategies and resources that address those barriers across training methods, assessment methods, activities and materials. You will be required to demonstrate how you document training and assessment strategies that address barriers in line with legislative, regulatory and organisational requirements, and how you apply current legislation, standards and WHS requirements relevant to supporting learners with disability in vocational training and assessment, ensuring that inclusivity actions are both compliant and operationally workable.
This assessment will confirm your understanding of how to apply organisational protocols for supporting learners with disability, including reasonable adjustments, confidentiality, privacy and referral processes, and how to use social and medical models of disability to inform inclusive planning decisions and strategy selection. It will also assess your ability to specify key components of inclusive training and assessment strategies, including delivery mode, duration and scheduling, methods, resources, activities and environment requirements, so that the strategy is structured, transparent, and capable of being implemented consistently across training and assessment contexts.
You will also be assessed on your capability to identify and source assistive resources, equipment and technologies required to implement strategies within scope of your role, and to identify and coordinate specialist services, aids, facilities and resources outside scope using organisational referral pathways. This includes confirming accessible alternatives for external, off-site and work-based training and assessment activities, and adapting training structures and timeframes, learning and assessment resources, and learning and assessment tasks, activities and formats to meet diverse disability support needs without compromising the integrity of vocational outcomes. The assessment will also examine your ability to apply inclusive communication strategies and techniques, including augmentative and alternative communication methods and aids aligned to learner preferences and support needs, and to apply inclusive language and person-first expressions while using plain English principles when presenting information and materials to learners.
By successfully completing this course assessment, you will have demonstrated that you can review and analyse barriers to access and inclusion, investigate and document compliant strategies that address those barriers, source and coordinate required resources and specialist supports appropriately, confirm accessible alternatives for varied training and assessment contexts, adapt structures, resources and tasks to meet diverse disability support needs, apply inclusive and appropriate communication approaches, report health or safety issues in line with WHS and organisational procedures, gather and use feedback to review outcomes, and adjust strategies to improve training and assessment outcomes for learners with disability—confirming your readiness to design and implement inclusive training and assessment strategies in vocational education and training contexts.
