COURSE OVERVIEW:
Speed Reading is the ability to read faster. It is a very important skill, especially for people who need to read a large amount of text every day. It allows the reader to grasp what is being read much faster and helps to cut down the time spent on reading and understanding the text. With speed reading, you can train yourself to stop vocalising the words in your mind as you read, increase your comprehension and concentrate on what you are reading.
The most important reason to learn speed reading is because it helps you to read a lot more than you would be able to read normally. The average reading speed is supposed to be between 200 to 300 words per minute, with speed reading this capacity could be tripled in most cases to up to 900 words per minute with full comprehension. It saves time and improves comprehension as they are better able to grasp arguments and concepts presented in a piece of writing.
This empowers you in your life and career. It enhances the ability to engage socially, as a speed reader reads a lot more than an average reader, is up to date on the news and views and has a lot more to add to a conversation. It helps with concentration and improves the memory as well as instils confidence and adds to your knowledge. It improves problem-solving skills, encourages innovation and helps to develop leadership qualities.
Speed reading will allow you to read more materials in the same time that you spend reading now. Thus, it allows you more time to read the materials that you want to. As your speed reading skills improve, you will also train yourself to focus in on important details within the reading material. You will begin to retain more of the material that you read, and also find time to continue doing the things that were preventing you from reading more in the past.
This course includes many techniques that will help you increase your reading speed by up to three times in a matter of a few weeks. The techniques are a natural extension of your current reading ability. It also contains many exercises that will help you solve many of the common problems that prevent you from reading faster. However, as with any course, you have to make the commitment to learn how to speed read. A few minutes of practice each day on these exercises will greatly expedite your learning.
The first part of this course starts by discussing how to prepare, evaluate and adjust your reading environment before starting your speed reading training. Then explains how to determine your current reading speed and the problems that are limiting you from reading faster. Then describes some methods to eliminate regression. Then shows you how to minimise the page turning and line return times. Then targets the problem of word-by-word reading, then explains how to reduce vocalisation by seeing a group of words as one and deriving meaning from the group.
The second part begins by introducing some skimming techniques that will greatly reduce your word-by-word reading and vocalisation and also to determine the suitability of the material to your needs. Then introduces the concepts of dynamic reading and examines some methods and techniques to further increase your comprehension of the material that you will read and retain that information. Then discusses how to adapt your paper reading strategies to your on-screen reading, to increase your reading speed while reducing your reliance on printed materials.
